Chimney Installation Specifications and tips

This chimney pipe is 9" outside diameter and requires 2" of clearance to any combustible materials. It must rise thru the roof to a height that is 2' taller than the nearest surface within 10' horizontally, which is usually the ridge. The chimney is also required to extend at least 3' from the roofline. If the chimney extends over 4' from the roof surface then support bars are required to stabilize it. 1/2" thin walled conduit from a electrical or hardware store is often used. The Tee system chimney passes thru a thimble that is 14" round and attaches to the wall. The chimney connected to a Tee Chimney section that is supported by a bracket with access for a clean out plate. The pipe passes up the outside wall with support from a wall bracket at least every 4' or by thru passing thru the flashing in the roof's overhanging eave. Single wall stovepipe requires 18" clearance to combustibles and double wall pipe or single wall with pipe shields, require 6" clearance.

Beware that any side wall venting with a wood stove may not draft well causing smoking in home, slow start up, no start up draft without a hair dryer to warm flue, difficult & expensive chimney cleaning. On multiple story homes this problem is more likely where the vent exits the building on the lower floors.

The standard pipe listed here is tested to 1700 degrees which was the only standard for class A chimneys up until the 2100 “HT” testing standard was established. Review your needs with your local building inspector or stove manufacturer to determine which pipe suits your needs
