This woodstove has been designed to heat even the largest of spaces - while keeping the high-end design and style of our HearthStone Select Collection of soapstone stoves. This is the most recent addition to their 30 year heritage of finely built soapstone wood stoves made in the USA .Here is a review from one of our customers who purchased the Equinox woodstove. We received this 11-18-09 We were hesitant to buy this stove, but are so glad we did! After researching stoves that heat 3500sf or more, it is a very limited market. This stove is perfect and didn't disappoint (thank goodness). I was worried it might not perform as stated on Hearthstone's website. My fears were unfounded and it heats the whole house beautifully, without blowing you out of the room it's in. We live in the cold, rainy Pacific Northwest and the Equinox is very well suited here. We actually keep it dampered down half way most of the time in our open concept 3700sf house. I am soooo glad I bought this and it turned out to be a positive experience (a rare thing these days). FYI...for the same money as a tile hearth pad, you can get a 3 cm thickness of granite from a local shop and dress up the look even further. We laid ours over carpet and it didn't break when placing the stove on (something we were warned could happen). Stay away from veining, that could make it crack when placing the woodstove on it. We had the stove and three delivery people on it (1300 lbs prox) and the granite held just fine. The carpet cushions if the floor isn't perfectly level. Ask your local granite shop for a scrap piece. We got 56w x 50d to accomodate the big size of the stove and side door. Between the soapstone on the stove and the granite pad, we get a lot of compliments, since it actually makes woodstoves look deluxe, instead of rustic!! Note: If you buy an Equinox, be sure to write a review. That's why I was so paranoid about spending that much money, there were no reviews. I'm so relieved it turned to be very positive. Features:- 4.0 cubic foot firebox for heating up to 3500 sq. ft. homes- Large firebox accepts 25" logs through the front door, or through the easy-loading side door. Front and side doors provide maximum loading ease, and increased fuel efficiency. The side door can be ordered on the right side upon request but comes on the left side standard.- Single air-intake lever/stove control- Stove operation is easy with a single lever and performance more consistent due to soapstone heat storage.- Open and close ash grate and removable ash drawer- Easy, clean ash removal; pan can be removed while fire is burning.- Unmatched fire viewing on large self cleaning air washed window.- Air entering the firebox through the stove’s secondary air tubes ignites the gases rising off the burning wood. The resulting light and - flames provide dazzling fire viewing, even when the fire is burning at a low rate.- Non-catalytic combustion system surpasses EPA clean burning standards- Clean burning, complete combustion provides more heat from less wood, greater efficiency, reduced smoke and creosote build-up.- 8" reversible flue collar- This stove has a top or rear flue exit so it can be installed as a freestanding unit, or as a hearth stove in front of a fireplace with a chimney liner pipe going thru the fireplace and chimney.- Outside air adapter (optional) - for improved efficiency in today’s newer, "airtight" homes; reduces cold drafts along the floor.- Rear heat shield for reduced clearances to walls (optional) This option allows more placement options; stove can be installed closer to a wall because clearance requirements are reduced; creates a convection passageway between shield and back of stove to allow optional fan to circulate air through the house more effectively.- Fan with built-in thermostat and rheostat (optional) - This blower option helps spread heat evenly throughout home; fan only operates when stove is at a significant heat level. The rheostat controls fan speed. Use of rear heat shield is required. Fan moves air up to 200 CFM.- Screen (optional) Allows for open door fire viewing.- Right hand side loading door(optional) AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!!! - Side door lock kit (optional) Use optional lock kit to reduce side hearth clearance from 16” to 3 1/8”.
